Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) is an artificial intelligence capable of creating content such as text, images, music, video, and code by learning from and analyzing large amounts of data. Koç University (“the University”) encourages the responsible exploration and use of Generative Artificial Intelligence tools. However, when using these tools, it is crucial to prioritize key considerations such as information security, data privacy, compliance, ethical standards, copyright, and academic integrity.
These recommendations are addressed to all faculty members at our university. Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools are considered as a tool to support and improve teaching and learning processes.
This policy is valid unless otherwise stated in the course syllabus and intended for Koç University students. Students are required to adhere to the principles of ethics and academic integrity when using GAI tools.
The contribution of artificial intelligence technologies to the research data lifecycle is undeniable. Tasks such as data collection, cleaning, or analysis, which could previously take months, can now be completed within hours through the use of these technologies.
When using generative AI tools, it is recommended to prioritize those that align with Koç University’s institutional principles, information security policies, and relevant regulations. These tools are designed with high standards of information security to safeguard both users and the institution. Therefore, selecting AI tools that adhere to these standards is essential.
