Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence for Faculty Members

These recommendations are addressed to all faculty members at our university. Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools are considered as a tool to support and improve teaching and learning processes. Faculty members should consider the principles of ethics, academic integrity, and data confidentiality in the use of GAI tools. For more detailed information on general principles please click here.

Course Design and Curriculum Integration

Faculty members may consider integrating generative AI (GAI) tools into course design and curriculum. Including clear and explicit guidelines on the use of GAI in course syllabi can be beneficial. It is recommended that GAI integration aligns with learning objectives and supports student-centered learning.

Assessment and Assignments

Faculty members might review their assessment methods considering the use of GAI. Assignments should focus on evaluating students’ understanding and skills, not the capabilities of GAI tools. When using GAI-supported assessment tools, it’s important to ensure fairness and inclusivity.

Academic Integrity and Ethics

Faculty members should explain the principles of academic integrity related to generative AI (GAI) and set a good example for students. Including ethical issues around GAI use in course content can be helpful. It’s also important to consider the effects of GAI on copyright and intellectual property. For more details, please refer to the section titled “Responsibility for the Use of Generated Content.

Professional Development

Faculty members may consider participating in ongoing teaching and development activities related to GAI tools. The university may aim to provide regular training and support to faculty members on AI. Sharing of best practices about the use of GAI is encouraged. In this context, you can access our institutional training from the KOLT Events link.

Data Privacy and Security

Faculty members should prioritize the privacy and security of student data when using GAI tools. It is mandatory to obtain the necessary permissions for transferring personal data to GAI systems, comply with legal regulations, and follow the principles outlined under the “General Principles for the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools” section.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

Generative AI (GAI) tools can be used to increase accessibility for students with different learning needs. These tools can be used to ensure that all students have equal access to educational opportunities and support their engagement in the learning process in line with their unique learning style, cultural background, and individual needs.

Policy Updates and Implementation

These recommendations are regularly updated in line with technological developments and institutional needs. Faculty members are encouraged to follow and implement current recommendations. Challenges encountered in implementing the recommendations and new ideas are reported to the relevant academic units.
